Rio de Janeiro, October 10, 2011 (LAC) - The Library of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) has signed in September the International Data Platform Atla Religion Database - EBSCO. The same basis was signed by the World Council of Churches (WCC) in partneship with the Global Research Project, launched in October 8.
The project of the Division of Libraries and Documentation (DBD) of PUC-Rio held a workshop to expose the database in Theology and Religion to the teachers Luis Correa and Ana Maria Tepedino, and other researchers in theology and related fields.
The purpose of the WCC, which was begun by a group of Theological Education, meeting in Edinburgh Conference 2010, released by the ALC, joined the Atla Religion Database because of expansion of research’s universe, separately or integrated to other databases already in use.
Students at PUC-Rio can now access the Library page, sign up and start enjoying the information provided by Atla, thereby integrating the centers of excellence in theological education and scholarship in ecumenical perspective around the world, seen as key factor in the development of world Christianity in the 21st century.
Dietrich Werner, coordinator of the WCC Ecumenical Theological Education, said it was an effort "to do a project coordinated international research on trends and recent developments in theological education."
The project was designed to gather perspectives on all forms of theological education in each Christian tradition throughout the world. The basic tool for research is a broad survey on trends, conditions and needs in theological education, and will be answered by theological educational institutions, regional and global of theological schools associations.
By mapping the theological education in today's world, the book offers "a world class resource for all who feel the need to continue the ecumenical formation," said WCC general secretary, Dr Olav Fykse Tveit.
One of the presidents of the WCC, Rev. Ofelia Ortega, wrote that the manual opens "new ground in theological education" and the theologian Robert J. Schreiter, of Catholic Theological Union, called it in the preface of "vital resource" for the formation of church leadership for the future.
