Young German people will help victims of tragedy

Antonio Carlos Ribeiro

Nova Friburgo - Young German people, part of the Johanniter Jugend, the Evangelical Church in Germany, will put its work force in helping the victims of the tragedy of the rains, which fell on the region on Jan. 12.

The proposal is to put manpower in the reform of professional building that will house professional activity and income generation, according to the project, necessary in this city, especially after the tragedy.

Simon Hirzel is a leader who visit the city, in order to see the effects caused by the storm and have details of the work to be done. He will report what he saw and evaluate the project to be developed in a partnership involving the local community, federal government agencies, organizations that promote and support institutions in Brazil and Europe.

The Johanitter Jugend already develops projects in Brazil, based on professional activities by young people in the neighborhood of Americas, by Matthew House Community Center, attached to the Lutheran Parish of ABCD, in Santo André (SP).

The organization develops dynamic integration, training in practical tasks such as first aid and building with youth, always on a voluntary and professional. While the service is provided, they are staying at the home of families in the community, seeking learning, cultural coexistence and integration into the local way of life.

To motivate and organize such training, they manage the participation of many young people of different conditions. This provides space for weekly meetings in which they develop, deal with different people know and live adventures and know elsewhere.

This work not involves only young Lutherans, but also of other churches and religions. This fact, Simon assured, does not create difficulties in living of the group - in which some participate already very early - and young people learn to deal with differences in a respectful manner. The group also cooperates with other aid organizations in the church.

On the last Church’s Day (Kirchentag), held in Dresden, eastern Germany, the youth of Johanniter Jugend helped in the transport and handling of people with disabilities and presented the closing activity of the meetings, called "Good evening, Kirchentag."
